The Juried “Go Figure” figurative art exhibition is running now through April 18th. The Opening is scheduled on (Second Saturday) April 11th! from 6:00-9:00 Come join us as many participating artists will be in attendance. Prizes will be awarded to the winning artists that evening. Refreshments will be served.

Notes from the mixer 3-14-2009

The mixer was a success. Attendance was surprisingly good with roughly 30% of the membership stopping by that evening.(Many members stopped in earlier that day or notified me in advance that they were out of town)
Regretfully a number of people stopped in and left before I had a chance to say hello. (If you’re one of those people send me an e-mail and let me know!) The food was delicious. The conversation was lively.

We began the discussion about what we, as an art’s community would like to see and we discussed some of the obstacles that are preventing us from achieving our goals. It was interesting to note, that the problems that plague visual artists are exactly the
same as those that plague the other art’s and humanities here in Kenosha. Some of the topics were:
Attendance to events- What makes an event successful?
Adapting to change in the digital age.
Adapting to change in this economy.
Cross-marketing-Promotion
Professional practices.
Access to information.
A comprehensive arts calendar.

I spoke about what personal goals for the K.A.N. are:
A source of practical information.
A networking tool.
A promotional vehicle for ALL arts events. Not any specific organization.
A gateway for people to become involved in the many projects that happening here.
Most importantly, I hope the site evolves into a catalyst. The K.A.N. is not meant to
be the end result of what’s happening, but rather an enabler. Connecting people in the real world.
We all share a common goal. We want to work and live in a city that values the arts, and artists.
There are so many talented people here, the framework is in place it is now our responsibility
to make that happen.

Several new projects were proposed and organized and information will be posted as it becomes available.
In conclusion the night was entertaining and productive. It was a great start.
