“A Secret Art” Call for Artists

Call for Artists!

Call for Artists:    “A Secret Art” Creative vision in a post apocalyptic world.
March 5th-April 12th  Opening reception 6-9 Saturday March 12th

The scenario:  Imagine life in a post apocalyptic world.  All the major cities of the world lie in ruin.  People wander from place to place in search of clean water and food.  Since the survivors are generally nomadic, the concept of “home” is no longer tied to a physical place. In this world, all your belongings are carried with you, and the few extra things that bring you some comfort, some feeling of home, are extremely precious.
Art is a symptom of being human, and even in these extreme circumstances people will feel the need to create artwork. These expressions of individuality are not being made to hang on a museum wall, art is now created to accompany people on their journeys through life.

The rules of art in a post apocalyptic world:  The artwork of the post apocalypse must be concealed.  Work must be hidden within a less desirable object or built into a very utilitarian looking structure.  you would not want to draw unnecessary attention to this object.
Artwork must be small enough that it’s not a burden to carry.
For additional Inspiration:  Novels like:  The Road, or The Passage. Films like: Mad Max, The Omega Man, Book of Eli etc.

The exhibition
:  ArtWorks Gallery in Kenosha is turning the gallery space into a post apocalyptic world!  The submitted art will NOT be displayed on white gallery walls, the pieces will be displayed amongst the rubble of this fabricated world.
This is a juried exhibit with an entry fee of $15  (for up to 3 entries)
Internet Submissions are due by Feb. 21st 2011 and physical entries by Feb 26 2011
